fenomena fretting (gesekan mirip gergaji) merupakan masalah serius dalam mesin.
Terdapat dua factor yang membentuk fretting yaitu fatigue, dan mekanika
sentuhan. Persamaan Archard wear dalam menjelaskan masalah fretting ini dengan
kerangka analitis dan numeric. Pendekatan ini menjelaskan bahwa mekanisme
sentuhan dikarenakan aus permukaan (material removal at the interface)akan
berbeda signifikan tergantung pada slip regime. Stress bahan dan strain bahan
juga dapat digunakan untuk meningkatkan akurasi prediksi pada fatigue terutama
pada mesin dengan kondisi beban multiaksial (multiaxial loading conditions).
Hokum akumulasi kerusakan (Damage accumulation laws) dapat digabungkan dengan
teknik multiaksial untuk menjelaskan masa keawetan material pada kondisi beban
bervariasi.
Dengan memahami mekanika fraktur,
maka dapat disusun model yang lebih baik yang dapat mencegah terjadinya crack.
Pencegahan crack adalah hasil dicapai tesis ini.
